Job Title: Inventory Control Manager

Reports To: Director of Operations / Supply Chain Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary:

The Inventory Control Manager is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the accuracy, compliance, and flow of all inventory within a fast-paced food distribution and production facility. This role ensures precise tracking of raw materials, packaging, and finished goods while implementing best practices that support food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. The manager will lead inventory team members, collaborate across departments, and enforce inventory controls that reduce shrink, support traceability, and ensure efficient production support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee inventory processes across raw materials, packaging supplies, WIP (Work in Progress), and finished goods in both dry and cold storage environments.
  • Lead cycle counts, full physical inventories, lot tracking, and reconciliation efforts to maintain >98% inventory accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety programs including SQF, GMP, HACCP, and FDA regulations , especially for product traceability, FIFO/LIFO, and allergen control.
  • Work with procurement, QA, production, and warehouse teams to align inventory flow with production schedules and customer demand.
  • Manage inventory adjustments, stock transfers, and root cause investigations for any discrepancies.
  • Use ERP/WMS systems to track, report, and optimize inventory levels and space utilization; support lot code and expiration tracking.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor inventory control staff; establish clear SOPs and performance metrics.
  • Support regulatory audits and ensure readiness for third-party inspections or recalls.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects for new product launches, process improvements, and warehouse layout optimization.
  • Monitor spoilage, obsolescence, and temperature-sensitive inventory handling, providing solutions to minimize product loss.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Solid knowledge of food safety and compliance standards (SQF, HACCP, GMP, FDA).
  • Strong experience with inventory software (ERP/WMS) and advanced Microsoft Excel functions.
  • Proven ability to manage inventory in refrigerated, frozen, and dry storage environments.
  • Skilled in data analysis, variance reporting, and corrective action planning.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with QA, production, warehouse, and logistics teams.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred, but not required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in supply chain, food science, logistics, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in inventory control within food manufacturing or distribution environments.
  • 1+ year in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Experience with traceability systems, lot tracking, and food-grade warehousing required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and navigate warehouse/production areas.
  • Ability to work in cold storage and fluctuating temperature environments.
  • Standing, walking, and data entry for extended periods required.
