Job Description

*This position is eligible for a Competitive Area Differential (CAD) as approved by the Florida State Court System up to $3,932.04 annually. 

Under supervision, Court Interpreters perform a wide variety of language interpretation activities on an assigned and as-needed basis for the 20th Judicial Circuit Courts, and for persons doing business with the courts circuit-wide. Incumbents perform duties as an interpreter for courtroom and other legal proceedings, which may include, but are not limited to, arraignments, preliminary hearing, pre-trial conference, and court trials.

Primary responsibilities include: (1) Interpreting the spoken and written word from and into English and Spanish languages; (2) Translation and Documentation; (3) Research and Development; (4) Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Training Guidelines

Bachelor's degree in English; the source language, or a closely related field or, any equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training in the fields of interpretation, translation, linguistics, or education. Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis.
Two years of court/legal related experience. Additional relevant education may substitute for the recommended experience on a year-for-year basis, excluding supervisory experience.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License
-Must be registered with the State of Florida Court Interpreter Certification Board (In order to be able to register, applicants must have already attended the State of Florida Court Interpreter Orientation, passed a written test and completed 20 court observation hours).
-Certified Court Interpreter by the Court Interpreter Certification and Regulation Program (CICRP) of the Office of the State Courts Administrator (OSCA), Florida State Courts System (required to obtain within one year of hire)
-Biennial Renewal and Continuing Interpreter Education (CIE) Compliance Requirement
Two-year Certification requirements are not paid by the AOC and are at the employee’s own expense.
