Primary Services is actively recruiting for an entry-level System Controller to support a leading energy provider's Real-Time Operations team. This temp-to-hire role is ideal for individuals with a technical background and strong problem-solving abilities who are looking to build a stable and rewarding career in system operations. Comprehensive training will be provided to ensure you gain the knowledge and certifications needed for long-term success.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare for and pass the NERC and ERCOT operator certification exams within three months.
  • Monitor and control electrical equipment using the Energy Management System (EMS).
  • Direct and coordinate field switching and clearance activities via radio, phone, or supervisory control.
  • Analyze EMS data for accuracy and monitor power system conditions.
  • Maintain system voltage within prescribed limits using static and dynamic voltage sources.
  • Coordinate voltage stability and reliability with ERCOT System Operators.
  • Implement safe and reliable commissioning and interconnection of new electrical facilities.
  • Assist in minimizing transmission congestion during planned outages.
  • Control substation and transmission equipment such as capacitor banks, transformers, and breakers.
  • Maintain accurate logs of all system events and ensure appropriate notifications are made.
  • Respond to system conditions with appropriate emergency actions and communications.
  • Support control center operations during major system events.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and procedures during normal and emergency activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant technical or electrical experience will be considered.
  • Ability to remain calm and provide clear instructions during emergencies.
  • Strong communication skills via verbal, written, and graphical methods.
  • Familiarity with basic electricity and three-phase power principles.
  • Comfortable using algebra and trigonometry to perform power system calculations.
  • Capable of interpreting EMS data to make timely operational decisions.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain NERC and ERCOT certifications.
  • Must follow all safety protocols and demonstrate consistent professional conduct.
