The GIS Specialist / Mapping Support Technician is responsible for supporting the development, maintenance, and management of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases and mapping documentation for electric and gas distribution systems. This role combines technical GIS work with field and office-based mapping support to ensure the accuracy and integrity of utility asset records.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and update GIS databases and related services.
• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of GIS data capture, storage, and maintenance.
• Monitor system performance and recommend or implement improvements.
• Stay informed of emerging GIS technologies and apply them when beneficial.
• Support GIS-related projects through technical analysis and mapping.
• Compile data and generate maps, reports, forms, and other documentation.
• Create accurate "as-built" drawings based on field notes.
• Maintain maps and documentation for electric distribution and gas storage systems.
• Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of records, maps, and taxing districts.
• Conduct basic fieldwork, including measurements, stake setting, and facility documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of GIS software and database management principles.
• Experience in spatial data analysis, map creation, and field verification.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic mapping/GIS applications.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability and willingness to perform a combination of office-based and outdoor field work.
