Dispatcher - First Student (Serving Memphis-Shelby County School District)

Location: Memphis, TN
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM - 5:30 PM
Pay: $21/hour

We're looking for a dedicated Dispatcher to join our Memphis-Shelby County School District team. This role ensures on-time route performance, effective communication between staff and customers, and smooth daily operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee all bus routes and schedules to ensure on-time service.

  • Serve as the primary communication liaison with contracted customers and internal teams.

  • Manage heavy phone and radio traffic, dispatching drivers and responding to issues quickly.

  • Counsel, coach, and support drivers and monitors to ensure exceptional performance.

  • Handle scheduling and driver concerns, escalating to the Operations Supervisor or Contract Manager as needed.

  • Assist with charter reservations, billing, and driver payroll when necessary.

  • Resolve drop-off and pick-up challenges with professionalism and efficiency.

  • Perform back-up driver or clerical duties as required.

  • Support day-to-day operational supervision and complete special projects as assigned.

Required Experience & Skills
  • 3-5 years of related experience (dispatch, operations, or transportation preferred).

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Basic knowledge of radio dispatch systems and related equipment.

  • Strong communication and customer service abilities.

  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office and dispatching software preferred).

  • Must pass DOT drug testing and physical exam.

    Note: DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not permit the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
