Summary: This position is responsible for providing guidance to the assigned organization in the underwriting and technical execution of its business to achieve planned profit and growth objectives.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Responsible for providing guidance to CL management and underwriters for risk selection, pricing and underwriting complex risks, portfolios and/or products within their specialty or expertise.
  • Responsible for translating CL underwriting goals into action plans subsequently collaboratively ensuring implementation and execution across the underwriting teams.
  • Responsible for the continued refinement of Property/Casualty growth, policies, guidelines, processes, and pricing. This position is responsible for the top-line growth and loss ratio performance for their product area(s).
  • Assess areas of opportunity for profitable growth. In conjunction with Chief Underwriter and underwriting leadership, develop underwriting and product plans to capitalize on growth, opportunities, and profit.
  • Proactively monitor lines of business results, and act quickly and effectively to growth and profit challenges.
  • Serve as the technical expert and referral underwriter for respective Casualty and Property products including providing guidance to product group on identification of underwriting requirements for systems that affect underwriting process and outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver technical training that assures skill gaps are identified and improved upon. Assure underwriter and underwriting leadership expertise level matches our business needs.
  • Refine and implement a multi-year growth, underwriting and product agenda for all responsible product lines. Assure underwriting practices match the same.
  • In conjunction with Actuarial, implement pricing modeling and monitor performance to model. Assure underwriting actions align with the model by measuring and monitoring pricing by individual, territory, state and countrywide. Share findings and observations with Underwriting leadership on an ongoing basis. Recommend changes as appropriate.
  • Assumes primary role in underwriting technical audits and quality assurance reviews to evaluate the quality of risk selection, pricing and compliance with Company policy.

What You'll Bring To The Company:

Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience. Ten or more years of commercial lines underwriting or product experience, including experience with larger brokers and agents. Strong communication, negotiation, training and analytical skills needed. Management experience a plus.
