Position Title: Research Coordinator

Primary Purpose/General Description: The Well-Being & Developmental Methods Research Lab, directed by Dr. Saida Heshmati in the Department of Psychology at Claremont Graduate University, seeks a full-time (with benefits) research coordinator/project manager to begin in August 2025, pending funding. Our lab's mission is to understand well-being and human connection across developmental and cultural contexts using advanced quantitative and mixed-method approaches.

Current projects include a major five-year, multi-site, cross-cultural study on cultural beliefs about love and their links to well-being, funded by the John Templeton Foundation. The appointment will be for one year, contingent upon the availability of funding. Hybrid options are available for this position.

Description of Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinating day-to-day lab operations
  • Recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising graduate and undergraduate research assistants
  • Organizing and facilitating international collaborations and research team meetings
  • Assisting with qualitative and quantitative data collection and management (e.g., focus groups, surveys, interviews, managing translations and transcriptions of scripts)
  • Supporting manuscript writing, data analysis, and literature reviews
  • Overseeing IRB protocols, grant budgets, lab communications, and project timelines
  • Managing lab website and public-facing communication materials
  • Contributing to academic presentations and dissemination of findings

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive research experience working in a psychology or social science research lab
  • Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience or interest in cross-cultural, qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods research
  • Familiarity with statistical (e.g., R, SPSS) and/or qualitative analysis software (e.g., ATLAS.ti)
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Cultural humility, flexibility, and an interest in topics of love, well-being, and cultural diversity
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

Qualification Standards:

Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in psychology, human development, or a related field

  • Research experience working in a psychology or social science research lab, including direct involvement with participant recruitment, study coordination, data collection, and data management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing IRB submissions and amendments, and ensuring compliance with human-subjects protocols.
  • Proven ability to support both qualitative (e.g., focus groups, interviews, transcription/translation workflows) and quantitative (e.g., survey administration, database management) research activities.
  • Experience writing and preparing professional scientific papers and manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, including conducting literature reviews, drafting methods and results sections, and coordinating co-author feedback.

Licenses/Certificates:

  • Current CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative) certification in Human Subjects Research (or willingness to obtain upon hire)

Other Preferences:

  • Experience with mixed-methods software (e.g., ATLAS.ti, NVivo) and statistical programming in R or Pythonrelevant to our plan for integrated qualitative/quantitative analyses.
  • Prior experience coordinating international research collaborations and managing complex project timelines across multiple time zones.

Hours: The regular hours for this position are 37.5 hours per week, which may vary due to the needs of the College or the department.

Classification and Status: This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, grant-funded temporary position classified as non-exempt. The appointment is for 12 months and is expected to end after one year, contingent upon continued funding.
