Bus Drivers In Training

Gain on the job training and hands on experience alongside our certified in-house trainers. Child Advocates of Blair County will cover the cost of your CDL/Class B training and S & P endorsement.

Wage, Incentive and Step by Step Information

Wage and Incentive Information:

Individuals participating in the driver-in-training program are hired as bus aides at $14.50/hr. When they are formally hired/promoted to bus driver, they will move on the wage scale to $18.75/hr. Incentives include:

• CDL training costs and compensation for training hours
• $500 sign-on incentive (two equal payments; included as part of first paycheck and after 60 calendar days of employment)
• $1000 licensure incentive (one payment after 60 calendar days as full-time bus driver)

Step by Step Information:

1. DOT Drug Test and CDL School Bus Physical. You must pass to continue
2. ELDT Classroom Training. Each section must be passed with a minimum score of 80%
3. After Each completed section, you will take the corresponding exam at the DMV to obtain each needed permit
4. On The Road Training. Complete 6 hours with a school bus trainer
5. Pre & Post trip inspection
6. Driving and Backing
7. Course skills
8. Student pick up & drop off
9. Railroad crossing
10. Emergency Evacuations and securement
11. All skills needed to successfully pass your exam
12. CDL Exam. You will be tested on your knowledge and skills related to CDL, Air brakes, passenger& school bus.
13. Upon completion & passing your exam, you will be a fully licensed School Bus Driver!
