Base Pay Range: $17.15 - $26.50 per hour (Depending on experience and job classification)

Scale Wage for State Jobs: $17.15 - $53.00 per hour (as per state scale wage requirements)

Job Description

Francis O Day Co., Inc., a leading paving and excavation company operating in Maryland and Virginia, seeks an experienced Asphalt Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. This role involves operating heavy machinery such as pavers, rollers, and milling machines for asphalt paving projects. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to private and state-funded projects.

Requirements

• Strong verbal communication skills; ability to read and write.
• Ability to work with and without direct supervision.
• Complete and abide by all safety training and other provided training.
• Reliable transportation and a valid drivers license.
• Experience operating heavy equipment (pavers, rollers, milling machines, etc.) used in asphalt paving projects.

Job Duties

• Operate paving machines, shuttle buggies/transfer machines, milling machines, asphalt rollers, asphalt screeds, or sensor operators.
• Inspect surroundings before operation to ensure safety.
• Operate equipment adhering to operational practices including safety and efficiency.
• Perform daily/preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Attend to scheduled shifts and follow attendance policies.
• Follow all safety policies and PPE requirements.

Physical Demands

• Frequently sit, climb, and handle equipment.
• Occasionally stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, reach above shoulders.
• Lift/move up to 50-75 lbs. occasionally.
• Respond quickly to unexpected events.
• Work long periods outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Wear protective safety equipment consistently.

Work Environment

• Outdoor work setting.
• Near heavy equipment and machinery.
• Night and day shifts available.
