As our Art Collection Manager, you will manage the contemporary art collection (7000+ objects in 200+ global locations) by setting priorities and plans for lifecycle and recapitalization. In this role you will oversee installation, inventory and maintenance, administer the art collection database, support the art procurement and project management processes, track construction projects and budgets and establishes workflow in collaboration with the curators, as well as  establish and implement policies and procedures. In this role, you will work with Enterprise Risk and Capital Accounting representatives to ensure appropriate coverage, manage digital content on web and app platforms, report to Art Program Senior Director and Chief Curator, and work closely with Curators and Administrative Program Coordinator; supervise Preparators and Interns.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages implementation and maintenance of art collection database.
  • Tracks location, history and value of all collection objects
  • Works with Art Program leadership to identify deaccession opportunities and determine appropriate platform.
  • Leads orientation and records management activities and ensures standards are maintained.
  • Plans, develops and maintains systems and procedures; assess for efficiency improvements.
  • Reports to Enterprise Risk and Insurance for locations of objects and insurance purposes.
  • Works with Capital Accounting to ensure accurate accounting of collection.
  • Provides recapitalization project management.
  • In collaboration with curators, develops project workflow including timelines.
  • Oversees project and construction lists for department.
  • Serves as a liaison with all levels of the organization and outside community.
  • Monitors art storage conditions.
  • Maintains Art Program and collection analytics; serves on Enterprise Analytics committees.
  • Manages use of collection assets including rights and reproductions.
  • Provides support with procurement process from vendor registration to invoice payment.
  • Participates in departmental administrative processes.
  • Establishes object conservation priorities; supervises artwork conservation.
  • Performs curatorial support and backup for projects.
  • Supervises Preparators and interns.
  • Serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
  • Provides tours of art collection.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Arts Administration, Library Science, Business Administration or related discipline required.
  • Master’s degree in Art History, Library Science, Museum Studies, Arts Management, Business Administration or related field preferred.

Certifications:

  • None

Complexity of Work:

  • Knowledge of statistical and financial analysis, primary research and business plan development.
  • Demonstrated team, leadership, organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Requires multi-tasking, critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in highly interactive team environment.
  • Must be able to take appropriate action in a stressful environment.
  • Ability to pay close attention to details, maintain a high degree of accuracy and ability to detect errors quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with database applications.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of collections management or recent experience as registrar with database experience.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Offset: Master’s degree and 1 year of related experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to operate office equipment, such as a computer.
  • May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.
  • Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required. 

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $25.13

Maximum hourly: $38.33

A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education.
